- 4:00-5:00 pm –“Fire-Climate Interactions in the American West” – Dr. Valerie Trouet, Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona (see her biography in the panel description below). This seminar is aimed at graduate students and faculty in the natural sciences (311 Latham Hall).

- 12:30-1:30 pm – Work-Life Balance Panel (1100 Torgersen) - Please join us for a panel discussion of the strategies successful, female scientists have used to balance their work and life demands. Panel presentations and questions will be of interest to all faculty and graduate students at Virginia Tech who struggle to fit an academic career into a fulfilling personal life.

- 2:00-3:15 pm - Keynote address by Ms. Laura Furgione, Deputy Director of The National Weather Service (see her biography in the panelists section). (100 McBryde). Ms. Laura Furgione will present an open seminar to all undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff and residents of Blacksburg that will focus on how the nation prepares and responds to extreme weather and climatic events.
- 3:30-4:30 pm - Workshops for graduate students – three concurrent workshops will be held at the Graduate Life Center and will be open to all graduate students in the sciences, engineering, and humanities. Registration required, click to register.
