Restoring degraded streams is critical if healthy urban forest ecosystems are to be maintained. Stream water quality, storm flow channeling, woody and herbaceous vegetation, wildlife habitat, and floodplain connectivity are frequently in need of rehabilitation. Reconditioning, however, often requires substantial and costly operations. This regional conference aims to cover the challenges and benefits of stream restoration in urban forests of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed using Arlington County’s Donaldson Run Restoration Project as a case study.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday evening June 18th to cover the social, economic, and environmental aspects of the Donaldson Run Restoration Project. The following day, a technical conference will occur to cover the ecology and techniques of urban forest stream restoration and present accomplishments and lessons learned from the Donaldson Run project.

Who Should Attend?

Community Leaders, Planners, and Landscape Architects

What are the challenges and opportunities of stream restoration in urban forests? Are the costs worth the benefits? What technology is available and how does one plan for and initiate a project?

Urban Foresters, Arborists, and Park Managers
