Graduate student puts textbook lessons into practice on her family farm

Oct. 20, 2015 – Dana Beegle, a mother of five whose children range from 5 to 14 years old, runs a busy home, volunteers in her community, and with her husband, Jon, owns and operates three businesses in Floyd County, Virginia.

Her passion for the environment and her goal to establish her family businesses as examples of sustainable agriculture led her, in fall 2013, to enroll in Virginia Tech’s Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation in the College of Natural Resources and Environment to pursue a master’s degree in agroforestry.

As a nontraditional student, she expected to face a few challenges. What she didn’t expect, she said, was how far and how fast the experience would advance her efforts to help the environment.  (continue reading article...........)
