Jacob Shemer Receives AWRA’s Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship

Congratulation to Jacob Shemer for receiving the 2021-2022 AWRA Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship! 

Jacob Shemer is an undergraduate majoring in Water: Resources, Policy, and Management in the Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment. 

The AWRA Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students studying the field of water resources. The scholarship honors Richard A. Herbert – a champion for water resources education – and is used for the enhancement of education in water resources.

From Jacob:

“In 2022, I will possess an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and the Environment (CNRE) in Water: Resources, Policy, and Management with a minor in Environmental Economics. These two complementary fields of study have one very significant point of connection: ecosystem services. Ecosystem services are the benefits that humans reap from the natural processes in the environment. These services fall into four separate categories: provisioning (material resources), regulating (natural processes), cultural (educational/spiritual), and supporting (foundations for life).“
